Germanic Genealogy Journal

Our highly regarded, 32-page quarterly journal, the Germanic Genealogy Journal (GGJ), contains articles written by GGS members. Articles typically focus on research strategies, summaries of GGS presentations, reports on genealogical travel, book reviews, historical information, and members’ success stories.

GGJ Cumulative Topic Index
This is a cumulative index of topics, not surnames, in the Germanic Genealogy Journal.
Currently, the index shows topics found in journal issues from Spring 1998 to  Winter 2009.

Tips for Searching the Index to Germanic Genealogy Journal

This alphabetical index lists topics in Germanic genealogy found in articles published in the Germanic Genealogy Journal. (It is not a surname index.)

  • The topics include
    • each German region of Europe,
    • many U.S. states,
    • general topics, like “How-To Articles” and “Book Reviews,”
    • German genealogy topics, like “German History,” “German Language,” and “German Records.”

To obtain a copy of the article, note the issue season and date, and then
return to the Journal web page and see if that issue is available online,
or read the copy in the GGS Library Collection in St. Paul, MN,
or check with your local genealogy or history library to find a copy,
or purchase a back issue from GGS.

All issues for the Germanic Genealogy Journal are available except for Summer 2000.

Search the cumulative GGJ topic index.

Guidelines for Submitting Articles to GGJ

GGS welcomes and is pleased to consider contributions of genealogical articles.

The many excellent articles submitted by our members over the years have contributed greatly towards making the journal a high quality publication. Vielen Dank!

Publication is determined by several factors - general interest to GGS members, coverage of specific subjects, balance of topics, and available space.

We prefer original articles, but may make exceptions. If your material has been published previously or submitted to other publications, please let us know. The editors reserve the right to edit all submitted materials for presentation, grammar, correction of errors, and length. Contributors are responsible for accuracy, omissions, and factual errors. Cite documentation for facts or statistical information, and give the complete source for all abstracted or transcribed records.

If possible, e-mail contributions to the editor at mitch088@tc.umn.edu.

If you do not use a computer, mail a neatly typed copy to:
